The following excerpt is taken from our Boundaries program:
"What is Self-Care? A day at the spa? Shopping? A cruise? Sleeping till noon? Netflix and popcorn? Take out? Getting the latest iPhone? Although there isn’t anything wrong with those activities, if we defined and practiced self-care only in those ways, it would eventually be detrimental to our health.
Self-care isn't just doing things that make us feel good temporarily, it involves reducing stress, practicing self-control and setting limits to improve our health and wellness. Relational boundaries are a form of self-care because they help reduce stress and harmful influences. The intent of self-care is to have health, energy and motivation to actively engage in the commitments and priorities that are important to us."
What does self-care look like for you? It could look like spending time in nature, going for a walk or getting some exercise, or starting a new creative hobby. When we are aware of which activities are effective for increasing our positive mental health, we can prioritize them and begin to notice the benefits of building those practices into our routines.
Our Boundaries program is an 8-week course for women. Healthy boundaries are essential for self-care as they define what is appropriate behavior in relationships and allows individuals to prioritize their needs and wellbeing.
